Medicine
Keeping with the vision of the institution, the department of Medicine, also called Clinical Medicine or Internal Medicine emphatically focuses on education, research, and equitable care of the patients coming from all socio-cultural groups. The department is run by specialists who have expertise or competence in recognizing internal or systemic diseases on the basis of clinical evaluation. American College of Physicians denote Internal medicine physicians as specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care across the spectrum from health to complex illness.
“No disease is ever created by Almighty, but that He created its cure”. Dedication in medical science ought to be endowed with such divine spirits as to search cure for the existing diseases and to keep watchful for the forthcoming ones. Thus, the medical science is no more anecdotal, rather entirely governed by “Evidence Based Medicine (EBM)” that means constant adoption of newest scientific research outcomes.
Regius Professor of Medicine in Oxford, Sir William Osler, considered as the Father of Modern Medicine, used to say "Listen to your patient- he is telling you the diagnosis", which emphasises the importance of taking a good history. He also cautioned “Do not try to teach the student too much, but give him good methods, and a proper point of view, and all other things will be added, as his experience grows”. Another legendary teacher, investigator and author in medicine, Sir Leybourne Stanley Patrick Davidson said “Everything had to be questioned and explained”. With remembrance of the immortal sayings of the legends, the department of medicine plays most comprehensive role in teaching and competency based training of students, Intern doctors and postgraduate trainee doctors.
